Origin Capital Fund 1 was New Zealand’s first private capital fund dedicated to investing exclusively in the kiwifruit sector — providing a new option for wholesale investors seeking exposure to one of New Zealand's most succesful primary industries. The Fund invests exclusively in premium Zespri™ SunGold™ Kiwifruit orchards, alongside strategic holdings in Zespri shares, providing direct exposure to the sector’s highest-performing assets.

A total of $85m was raised from 160 investors seeking access to this tightly held and high-growth industry. The Fund is now fully deployed, with a diversified portfolio of nine orchards spanning 102 canopy hectares across the Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, and Kerikeri. Today, the portfolio is valued at approximately NZD165 million, and the Fund ranks among the top 10 shareholders in Zespri.

The Fund holds an orchard portfolio of very high quality. The portfolio was constructed through a mixture of: bare land development; conversion of Green orchards to SunGold; and, purchase of established SunGold orchards. The portfolio reached full production in 2026 and is well set to deliver consistent and meaningful returns to investors for years to come.

The Fund has also benefitted from holding a diversified portfolio. Although parts of the portfolio were affected by Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023, the subsequent recovery in those assets has been significant, supported by the quality of the underlying assets and quality of partners available to the Origin team.
